Google Glasses, Just Like Wearing an Android on Your Face

These Google glasses (which are reportedly coming out by the end of this year) are just like having a smart phone attached to your face. Rumored to look similar to the Oakley Thumps (pictured), these glasses have sensory equipment that will work in conjunction with Google Maps, cloud, Latitude and Goggles and will feature a "Heads-Up Display" via projection. They will of course have the Android software and will work primarily with Google applications.

Remember when the iPad came out in, oh, April of 2010? Not even two years later there are a million companies trying to compete. So long contacts! I'm visioning a glasses-wearing population coming on very soon.

You Should Eat Dessert for Breakfast

I know this is a shocker so I'll get right down to business - In a recent study, scientists put 144 obese people on a low-carbohydrate and low-calorie diet. Women were allotted 1,400 calories each day and men 1,600, with both group one and group two on identical diets. Save for the one very important factor; one of the diets included a high-protein and high-carb breakfast that included either cookies, chocolate, cake or ice cream as a "breakfast dessert".

Throughout the first 16-week period, weight loss was similar across the board averaging to about 32 pounds within both groups. However, at the 16-week follow up the group that had been eating dessert for breakfast had lost an extra 13 pounds, while the no-dessert group gained back all but 3.5 of their originally-shed 32.

This can mean one of two things, and I'm going to go with the latter.

1. Eating dessert for breakfast is the weight-loss secret we've all been waiting for.

2. The group that ate dessert for breakfast satiated their sugar and junk craving early in the morning, ergo were less likely to indulge in unhealthy cravings throughout the day.

But if you decide you like the first one, you've just been handed a fool-proof excuse to eat cheesecake before noon.

Coming Soon: Synthetic Meat

A project that has been running for over six years, Dr. Mark Post from the University of Maastricht has been working on creating synthetic meat and has finally succeeded. Post released this photo of a 2cm piece of muscle that will over time become a piece of edible meat. He said that in the beginning it will taste bland, but as the experiment ensues they will work on flavor.

Why the fake meat? I wondered the same thing. Post's answer is sustainability. The World Health Organization estimates that by 2030 annual meat production levels will reach 367 million tons. Post says that synthetic meat can be engineered to be "healthier" than the real stuff, too, because there is no risk of E.Coli or BSE. Cholesterol levels would be dramatically decreased, and other essential vitamins and minerals could be added to production.

It's said that synthetic meat won't actually be released or mass produced for another 10-20 years, but Post says he'll have his first complete burger sample by October.

I mean, I get where they're coming from, but me? I'll take one of these instead...

"Like 4 Hope" - Help the Fight Against Pediatric Cancer

Hyundai's Hope on Wheels program has launched yesterday "Like 4 Hope", a Facebook initiative to celebrate their 14th year in the fight against pediatric cancer. In addition to their current programs, Hope on Wheels will also be donating additional money to 14 different pediatric cancer organizations in honor of their pivotal contributions to their cause.

"Beginning Feb. 15, anyone who "Likes" the Hyundai Hope on Wheels Facebook page can select one of 14 pediatric cancer organizations participating, and Hyundai Hope on Wheels will donate $5 to that organization. Each organization is eligible to receive up to $10,000, with all funds going directly to childhood cancer programs," according to the article.

Introducing the All-New 2013 Elantra Coupe

Hyundai announced this morning that they will be unveiling their new addition at the Chicago Auto Show this week. They will unveil both the new hatchback and the sport editions (Coupe and GT).

Word on the Auto Show street is that this new sporty Elantra will compete with the VW Golf, Mazda3 and Ford Focus. Although it's roomier than its competitors, the Elantra coupe is expected to achieve 28 MPG in the city, and 39 on the highway.

People say you can't have too much of a good thing, but I don't necessarily think that's true. I can't see any problem with creating a sportier and smaller version of a vehicle that was just crowned the North American Car of the Year. Charge by Day, Light by Night

Here's a new decoration tactic for Vermont yards and gardens. These little solar lights work by charging via sunlight during the day, then lighting your yard at night. Don't worry if you're not good at keeping real plants or flowers - these ones won't die without water or enough sunlight.

They may be a little bit tacky, but hey, we're Vermonters and what don't we love about solar power? Plus, these little guys are weatherproof. I'm a little surprised they're not made in Vermont!

FAA Reauthorization Bill Passes

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization bill just passed in congress - meaning air travel is about to be much different, and much better.

The key points:

Food and water will always be accessible, previously it was only required that food and water be available after two hours. Now, if you're stranded on the runway the airline is required to provide food and water. The same exact rule goes for medical treatment; previously a two-hour wait that now must always be available.

A hotline will be created by the Department of Transportation so that passengers may call toll free without issues.

Airlines will be required to post their maximum child safety seat size for each airplane they operate so that parents can know ahead of time if their child seat will work in the specific plane.

They will no longer be allowed to charge you for bringing a musical instrument. As long as the instrument meets regular safety guidelines, the passenger will no longer have to pay a fee to bring them along.

There will be a creation of a Department of Transportation Advisory Community; in favor of creating a valuable consumer flying experience.

Airlines will be required to provide a full list of insecticides used to the Department of Transportation so that flyers can check ahead of time to cross reference with any personal allergies.

Bieber's Hyundai Genesis Sells for $40,000

As we mentioned in an early Facebook post, Justin Bieber autographed a Hyundai Genesis Coupe as a fundraiser to fix up a skate park in his hometown Stratford, Ontario. Bieber signed the dash with silver ink and put the car up on Ebay, where it proceeded to sell for $40,000.

I somehow missed the whole Bieber fever. I thought I was too old until one of my coworkers who has four years on me talked about going to see Never Say Never for a straight month. But, to each his own!

The person who bought the car is unknown, but I'm sure it's one extremely happy superfan, or maybe a well-off parent who has a teenager obsessed with the Biebs.

Keep your New Year's Resolutions!

It's about that time when the New Year's Resolutions for shedding pounds and getting in shape are starting to slip away. The gym is getting less crowded, the January pressure is waning and your starting to lose sight of your goals. Well, here's an app that can help you hold on to them.

Swole.me is an online application used to help you manage your calories and food intake. But that's not all - this site will actually plan your meals for you based on your calorie goal. So you can choose how many meals you want to have every day and how many calories you want to take in, and it will give you planned out meals for the day. That's still not all - if you want to make it more personalized and have more of a say in your meals, all you have to do is put in what foods you want to eat and again, it'll plan everything for you. Still not all - you can also format it to eliminate certain foods if you have an allergy or intolerance and you can have it focus on a specific diet plan such as Atkins or Paleo.

Talk about effortless dieting. Well, dieting is never effortless. But I would say I think this is about as effortless as dieting can possibly be. It does all the calculating and planning for you, and all you have to do is follow it (which is of course the hard part, but hey, at least they're helping).

Hyundai Superbowl Ad Revealed!

Hyundai has revealed the commercials that they'll be airing during this year's Superbowl. The featured commercial, which will play before the kickoff will be a Rocky-themed ad. Hyundai will also be showing the 2012 Elantra's "victory lap" for its recent 2012 North American Car of the Year award.

Going on vacation this winter or spring? Want to make sure you try the locals' specialties? Eat Your World is a "global guide to local food," which features the prime cuisine and local favorites of individual places all over the world.

Just pick your destination and Eat Your World will supply you with the "local grub, typical fare and indigenous eats." Check out the video for their minute-long introduction.

This is great! Being a foodie myself, I always love to try new things in new places. It's also typically difficult to find somewhere good to eat when you're traveling in unfamiliar territory - especially when you're traveling in a big city, or in a country with the good old language barrier.

Check out the website here even if you're not going anywhere soon, it's a great idea and a fun read. And maybe it will help your stomach guide you to your next destination spot.

How sitting all day damages your body; and what to do about it

I just found this article from Lifehacker that refers to the damage that is done to our bodies from sitting around all day. Whether it's in an office or at home, sitting for prolonged amounts of time is really, really bad for your health. Besides the obvious weight gain and muscle tension - sitting all day every day for ten years can actually decrease your life span by seven whole years.

But don't fret quite yet - the Lifehacker article also poses solutions, such as getting up and taking a 5-10 minute walk throughout the day. They also suggest parking farther away in the parking lot, making sure you're getting at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise each day, and taking the stairs instead of the elevator. The article also gives you the links to a few computer programs you can set up to give you reminders for when to stand up and walk around.

Hyundai Superbowl XLVI Strategy

"Hungry but humble" is Hyundai's strategy for the 2012 Superbowl XLVI. Hyundai snagged one of the three spots for a commercial debuting before the kickoff. According to the article in brandchannel, "Hyundai [is] among the most robust foreign-owned brands in the world's largest auto market," referring to its leading sales in China.

What will the commercial be? Your guess is as good as ours, but I'm excited to see the debut. Hyundai is already having quite the year, pulling off the North American Car of the Year with the Elantra, and expanding its brand name to include luxury vehicles such as the Hyundai Genesis and Hyundai Equus.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the commercial, which will air before kickoff on Feb. 5 - and of course let's enjoy this nostalgic mash up between the New England Patriots and New York Giants.

Hyundai Elantra wins Car of the Year

Both the Hyundai Elantra and the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque won Car (and truck) of the Year at the 2012 North American International Auto Show. The panel of judges was comprised of a group of 50 independent automotive journalists.

This is Hyundai's second Car of the Year award, and well deserved after Hyundai sold more that 200,000 Elantras since the new model was introduced. President and CEO of Hyundai North America said "the award will help to cement Hyundai's reputation for quality and improvement the company has made since it entered North America 1986."

Congrats Hyundai and the Elantra! It's amazing to get such an award, but also not too surprising for the Elantra, which gets 40 MPGs on the highway and sells for a very reasonable price. It's very simple - but in these cold months - very handy too! Just put dried beans or rice into a clean sock or pillowcase, microwave for 1 to 2 minutes and voila! Ten minutes worth of heat in your new "heating pad".

Heating pads are great for anything that's going on with your body. Whether it's a headache, stomach ache, or you're just feeling chilly in general; heating pads are the way to go to give you a temporary soothing fix. Heating pads generally run for about $10-$60 depending on the quality, but if you have rice in the house why not make your own?

Burlington uses art to benefit COTS

Burlington will once again use arts to benefit others. I'm sure everyone remembers when the 38 painted cows were displayed around the city; well this time, they're doing bears. "Burlington Bears its Art" will be the same idea, only with bears replacing the cows. They will be presented on Church Street, alongside other locations from May 10 to Oct. 11, followed by an auction to sell them - where all of the benefits will go to Burlington's Committee On Temporary Shelter (COTS).

"The event, called Burlington Bears its Art, is a combination of business, art and community. It's designed to recognize local artists while encouraging tourism and generating revenue for businesses," says the article in the Burlington Free Press.

The cows that were displayed around town last year raised $10,000 for the Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger.

This is one of the many reasons why Burlington is such a great place to live and be. Burlington has always painted the portrait (so to speak) of its own persona by using art and creativity to benefit others. So keep watch for the bears on May 10! "five DJs turn the tables on the history of music"

Hyundai USA is in production of a project called Re:Generation, "a documentary that follows five of the world's biggest DJs... as they set out to put a different spin on the history of music." There's no exact description of what the film will entail, other than five major DJs alongside a huge group of music artists, fusing their styles together to create a documentary taglined to "turn the tables on the history of music."

Re:Generation features the young and the old, the past and the present; including music such as jazz and funk, orchestra and R&B, Motown and rap, rock and dubstep, country and electronic, and hip hop with instrumental. The five DJs turning the tables in this film are Pretty Lights, The Crystal Method, Mark Ronson, DJ Premier and the first ever Grammy-nominated electronic artist Skrillex.

This project is amazing. It will show the ways that all music of any kind can be fused together, and that artists from several eras can still create unimaginable art. This is probably one of the coolest ideas for a documentary I've ever seen. It may not be the most educational or historical one - but if you love music, Re:Generation will educate you on the historical aspect of just that. I'm betting this project will be an outstanding blend of full-blown musical talent, and it will be a real eye opener to the pure variety of music at its finest. Kudos to Hyundai USA and the artists involved for coming up with this idea.

New rival of the GTI, Civic SI and Cooper S

Speedlux.com just released an article on the 2013 Veloster Turbo, which was shown for the first time yesterday at the North American International Auto Show.

According to Speedlux, "the Veloster Turbo threatens to be an archrival for the Golf GTI, Honda Civic SI and Mini Cooper S, and has a better power-to-weight ratio than all of them. This model has two doors, three rear seats, and two front seats (driver and passenger)."

Not only does this car look amazing, but it has a best in class fuel economy of 38 MPG, leather seats, a seven-inch touch screen and projection headlights with LED accents - among many other things. If those things don't sound great, the price will. Its estimated cost is $25,000, and don't worry - it'll be available during the second half of this year.

Lifehacker just posted a great article on how to clean the gadgets around your house without ruining them. From your phone to your TV, this post will show you the quick and effective way to get the electronics you love sparkling.

This post is great because it shows you how to not completely scratch the living daylights out of your electronics, and it's so easy. There's no special sauce cleaner for each product you're cleaning and there are no real nitty-gritty ways to clean them. Just ease and simplicity, and most of the "cleaners" you use are probably lying around your house anyways!

What’s new for 2012? Hyundai has made a few big changes to their vehicle lineup, but a few of your favorites still remain for the most part the same. Here are the Hyundai vehicles that have upgraded their appearance and functionality moving forward into 2012.

Hyundai Accent

The 2012 Accent is available in either a four-door sedan or four-door hatchback model. Both models have a 1.6L engine, rated at 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. The Accent comes with an option of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, which comes with a fuel economy-boosting Eco mode. Both transmissions give this model 30 MPG city and 40 MPG highway, which will assist you as the driver during upcoming gas price increases.

The Premium package includes fog lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, premium cloth upholstery, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and Bluetooth capability. The GS hatchback adds a rear window wiper and keyless entry. The SE hatchback adds 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, a rear spoiler, leather steering wheel and all equipment from the Premium package above.

Hyundai Elantra

The 2012 model upgrades to Hyundai’s Active ECO System, which improves fuel economy by up to 7 percent. The horn has been altered for an improved sound, and fog lights as well as a passenger-side sun visor extension have been added to the GLS Preferred package. There is also an optional roadside assistance kit.

Hyundai Elantra Touring

There are very few changes to the 2012 Touring. The Preferred package has been added to replace the Popular package, which now includes 16-inch alloy wheels and optional roadside assistance. Volcanic Red and Dove White are the two additional exterior colors available for the 2012 Touring.

Hyundai Equus

Hyundai’s most expensive car, the Equus is now equipped with Korean automaker’s most powerful engine yet. Changes are slight, just a satin chrome trim on the side windows, and power rear side window sun shades.

Hyundai Genesis

The engine received direct-injection technology, which is said to give the Genesis a 15 percent improvement in output. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard. The 2012 Genesis is a 429 horsepower, 5.0L V8-powered model that has been added to the Genesis Family. It includes 19-inch alloy wheels, optional sport-tuned transmission, suspension and steering calibrations.

Other additions are Wood grain colors have been added to the interior in order to coordinate with the black, beige and saddle leather interiors. A new grille and front fascia design, new headlight design with LED, folding mirrors, puddle lights, redesigned tail lights, redesigned rear fascia with dual asymmetrical exhaust tips and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Hyundai Santa Fe

The Santa Fe will see little change, aside from a new front grille, premium leather shift knob and two new exterior paint choices (Venetian Red and Cabo Bronze). As for standard equipment on the 2012, the Santa Fe sees Downhill Brake Control, 17-inch wheels and low-rolling resistance tires.

Hyundai Sonata

The 2012 Sonata has been equipped with an all four-cylinder 2.0L gasoline direct-injection engine. The base 2.4L engine for the Sonata is rated at 28MPG city and highway combined, while the 2.0T gets 26MPG. The hybrid Sonata gets 37MPG city, 40MPG highway. The standard model includes BlueLink, a higher-resolution seven-inch touch-screen display for the optional navigation system. The Limited trim model includes a three-piece panoramic sunroof.

Hyundai Tucson

The 2012 Tucson received a new Active ECO system, low rolling-resistance silica tires, high-efficiency air conditioning and a larger capacity fuel tank, all to improve fuel economy. Solar glass is standard, as well as larger front disc brakes and rear suspension bushings for improved ride quality.

Hyundai Veloster

The Veloster, Hyundai’s all-new hatchback is built off of an extremely revised version of the Elantra. There are two transmissions for the new Veloster; the standard six-speed manual gearbox or the optional six-speed dual-clutch automated manual. It is predicted to have 30MPG city and 40MPG highway.

A seven-inch touch screen display is standard, as is Hyundai’s BlueLink, Pandora Internet radio capability, Gracenote display technology with voice recognition, video game console connectivity with a 115-volt power outlet, and Bluetooth with voice recognition.

Hyundai Veracruz

The 2012 Veracruz has added new wheels and a new grille. The Limited model includes heated second-row seats (standard), and an optional Alpine Navigation System.

So the rumors are finally true....Hyundai has come out with the Sonata Turbo and a great advertising campaign to usher it into the US automotive market.

The Hyundai brand keeps getting better and better and the Sonata Turbo is no exception. The Turbo dominates the competition with 274 horsepower it delivers class-leading horsepower as well as MPG.

The new marketing campaign for the Sonata called 'Turbo Face' is brilliant! It captures the joy, thrill and excitement that enthusiasts will experience when the purchase the very affordable Hyundai Sonata Turbo.

At Burlington Hyundai we are very excited about the arrival of the Turbo. It bring a new spark to the Hyundai line-up. Some of us here are wondering if it will soon rival the Subaru WRX STI on the rally racing circuit. Maybe not just yet, but if the Sonata gets AWD look out Subaru!
