Should you Buy Winter Tires, Studded Tires, or All-Season Tires?
Studded vs. Winter vs. All-season:
Studded tires are best only on ice and when temperatures are near freezing. The pros are that they stop faster than any other tire on ice in freezing temperatures, and they "chew up" the ice on the roads, which benefits both you and other drivers driving on the same icy roads. The negative side of that is while they chew up ice, they're not very good on the roads when there isn't any ice present. Studded tires aren't as effective as regular winter tires on snowy or slushy roads, they're illegal in a few starts and they're pretty noisy.
As for winter tires they perform well in all winter conditions, not just ice. Since they have that deeper tread, slush and snow are able to fall out of the tire as it rotates, thus causing less build up. The noise level is about the same for winter tires as it is for all-season tires, but a drawback can be that their regulation is misleading; it's best to buy your winter tires from a trusted source so that you're clear on the quality of your tires.
So which one is best for you? Since studded tires are better designed to handle icy roads, which are more prominent on the coast, you're probably better off using regular winter tires unless you live in a place that generally has sleek icy roads as opposed to snowy and slushy. If you appreciate less noise, you should definitely go with winter tires, and since we live in a place with very unpredictable autumn and spring weather, winter tires are usually the way to go.
All-season tires are an entirely different kind of tire. All-season tires are designed to perform in, well, all seasons, meaning that they're mostly effective in most driving conditions. They are a type of "tire compromise". All-season tires do particularly well in rain and on dry roads, but they're not prepared for the winter because the rubber that's on them isn't designed for less than 45 degree weather. When you drive in the cold, the rubber on all-seasons gets hard, making it easier for you to slide on the road in cold temperatures, as opposed to winter tires, which have rubber that keeps soft in the coldest temperatures.

Quality
There's a reason why we can back our vehicles with America's best warranty. Every Hyundai is tested in the world's most extreme driving conditions. Before they go to the dealership, we make sure everything from the paint job to the powertrain will stand the test of time.
Technology & Innovation
In Michigan, California and throughout the world, our engineers are developing revolutionary new technologies that make our vehicles safer, more environmentally friendly and more fun to drive than anything else on the road.
Design
We've incorporated nature's fluid lines and dynamic contours into the flowing shape of every Hyundai vehicle. Our interiors are equally refined, giving you space and amenities normally reserved for a class above.
Safety
To make our vehicles safe, we include more advanced safety features in every model. That's why the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety presented us with two Top Safety Pick+ awards in 2014.
Built in the USA
A lot of the Hyundai vehicles you see on the road were designed, tested and built right here in America. That many vehicles creates a major economic impact. In 2011 alone, we contributed over 94,000 jobs to the economy.

2015 Hyundai Genesis and Sonata Make 2015 North American Car of the Year Short List
The 2015 Hyundai Genesis and 2015 Sonata have been named to the short list for the 2015 North American Car of the Year, one of the most prestigious automotive awards in the industry. Hyundai is the only brand with two vehicles on the list of ten.
“In a world bursting with terrific new cars, it’s easy to become a little myopic, and lose sight of extraordinary achievement. Hyundai makes an excellent example,” said Tony Swan, North American Car of the Year juror in the Hyundai press release. “In 2009, Hyundai challenged the luxury sedan establishment with its new Genesis, and collected the North American Car of the Year award. In 2011, the Hyundai Sonata was a finalist for the award. In 2012, the Hyundai Elantra took top honors again. And this year two Hyundais—Genesis and Sonata, both completely redesigned for 2015—are on the list of 10 North American Car of the Year semifinalists, selected from an original list of 29 cars. Not bad for a company that didn’t even exist until 1967.”
Later on in the year the finalists will be narrowed down to three, and later, the 2015 North American Car of the Year will be announced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, which is being held Jan. 12-25, 2015.

100% of Burlington's Power is Now Renewable
Burlington, Vt. now gets 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, including wind, water and biomass. For those who aren't familiar with the initiative, this is part of a movement that aims to power 90 percent of Vermont with renewable energy by 2050, which would include heating, electricity and transportation.
"It shows that we're able to do it, and we're able to do it cost effectively in a way that makes Vermonters really positioned well for the future," said Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Public Service Christopher Recchia in a Boston Globe press release.
Vermont is at the forefront of this initiative, showing other cities around the country that this is possible and attainable; many other cities are working towards 100 percent as well. We love seeing our city making headlines around the country for its efforts in being environmentally and socially aware!
Hyundai is also a fan of utilizing renewable resources, making the first-ever fuel cell-powered vehicle. Learn more about the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell here.

Hyundai Hope on Wheels
What started in 1998 as a grass-roots effort to raise money for a local New England pediatric cancer institute has grown into a powerful nation-wide charity called Hope on Wheels. Each time a new Hyundai is sold, a donation is made to help kids fight cancer. With over 800 dealerships, those numbers add up quickly. In fact, we're so committed to helping kids fight cancer that we won't stop until we find a cure.
Help us find a cure for childhood cancer.
Hope On Wheels focuses its fundraising primarily on children's hospitals around the United States and those hospitals' research on pediatric cancer, as well as building awareness about the importance of the cause. To date, Hyundai Hope on Wheels has raised over $74 million in fundraising efforts over the last 16 years, and will continue with this program in the hopes that someday there will be a cure for childhood cancer.
Learn more at the Hope on Wheels website here, or visit our own Hope on Wheels page here.

What makes an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK or IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+?
We're always posting articles about which Hyundai models achieve the coveted TOP SAFETY PICK accolade from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), but we realized the details of what goes into choosing may not exactly be common knowledge.
There are two factors that are considered when testing vehicles, crashworthiness, which is how well a vehicle protects during a crash, and crash avoidance and mitigation; technology that prevents a crash altogether, or at least lessens the severity.
Crash worthiness is rated by good, acceptable, marginal and poor, and is tested with five tests: moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. For crash avoidance and mitigation, there's a rating system of basic, advanced or superior, and this is rated based on the type of system and its performance in the tests.
So, to qualify for an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK a vehicle must earn the top level ratings (good) in moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, and earn at least an acceptable in small overlap front.
To earn an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ accolade (the IIHS' highest honor), a vehicle must earn a TOP SAFETY PICK and also have basic, advanced or superior ratings in crash prevention. Vehicles that are deemed TOP SAFETY PICK+ can be considered some of the safest cars on the market.
Hyundai already has two vehicles that have achieved a TOP SAFETY PICK+; check out our online selection of the 2015 Sonata and 2015 Genesis here.
