Burlington, Vt. now gets 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, including wind, water and biomass. For those who aren't familiar with the initiative, this is part of a movement that aims to power 90 percent of Vermont with renewable energy by 2050, which would include heating, electricity and transportation.
"It shows that we're able to do it, and we're able to do it cost effectively in a way that makes Vermonters really positioned well for the future," said Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Public Service Christopher Recchia in a Boston Globe press release.
Vermont is at the forefront of this initiative, showing other cities around the country that this is possible and attainable; many other cities are working towards 100 percent as well. We love seeing our city making headlines around the country for its efforts in being environmentally and socially aware!
Hyundai is also a fan of utilizing renewable resources, making the first-ever fuel cell-powered vehicle. Learn more about the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell here.
