Three of Hyundai's 2013 vehicles have been awarded KBB.com's 5-Year Cost to Own Award. The 2013 Veloster took home the award in the Compact Car segment, while the 2013 Veloster Turbo grabbed it in the Sport Compact category, and finally the 2013 Sonata was awarded first in the Mid-Size Car segment. Each of the three vehicles was found to have the lowest cost of ownership throughout the first five years when compared with any other car in its category.
The award is set up to inform shoppers and help them make more educated decisions when purchasing a vehicle. KBB.com breaks down typical ownership cost details and names the brands with the lowest projected five-year total cost.
We love that Hyundai has continued to strive for practicality, functionality and of course, affordability. Be sure to check out our inventory of the three awarded models by clicking on the model name above!

J.D. Power and Associates announced on Feb. 13 that the Hyundai Sonata was the most dependable midsized car for 2013. The Vehicle Dependability Study measures issues experienced in the past 12 months by original owners of three-year-old vehicles. The results include industry insights, model rankings and nameplate rankings; overall dependability is finalized by the level of problems experienced per 100 vehicles.
The Sonata, the vehicle that just broke its all-time sales record includes high fuel efficiency, Hyundai's Blue Link infotainment system as well as enhanced design and greater features. "The Sonata sets the benchmark for midsize sedans offering sleek design, class-leading interior comfort, functionality and practicality all at an incredible high value," according to the press release.
Hyundai showed off its new HCD-14 Genesis Concept at the Detroit Auto Show in January - the concept is a sleek, more luxury vehicle and is a taste of what we can expect from Hyundai (as far as premium sedans) in the future.
"HCD-14 Genesis gives a hint of the design direction we'll be taking, and an indication of the focus we're placing on driving dynamics and technology," said CEO of Hyundai Motor America John Krafcik.
The technology he describes is referring to the interactive 3D gesture recognition and eye-tracking system in the HCD-14 Genesis. The systems work together so that the driver may keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road more frequently, as opposed to needing to reach out to utilize the car's technology. A windshield head-up display (HUD) is placed above the steering wheel, which relays info without the driver needing to look away from the road.
As far as design, the HCD-14 Genesis Concept is a four-door coupe with a large focus on driving dynamics and driver-centric experience, according to Motor Authority. For a full "tour" of the vehicle, check out the video below!
